Besalú

 

Besalú is a town in the Garrotxa district, 57 km from Roses, displays a Romanesque style of architecture in which the Catalan historical tradition combines with elements of the Jewish communitythat lived here during the middle Ages.

 

In 1996 the town was declareda National Historical-Artistic Complex for its great architectural value.

 

Among itsmain attractions arethe majestic 11th-century Romanesque bridge and the Monastery of Sant Pere, founded in 977 by the count-bishop Miró.
